CHROMIC CATGUT
Absorbable Surgical Suture
Chromic Catgut is a surgical sterile, absorbable suture material from purified sheep gut sub-mucous fibrous tissue (mostly collagen). Surgical catgut has two types which are plain and chromic. Chromic catguts are chemically processed with chromium salts to be more durable against absorption. Chrome Catgut is coloured brown with pyrogallol. Chrome Catgut also has indigo colour. Surgical catguts are packed dry or inside conditioning solution. Conditioning solution consists of isopropyl alcohol (89.50%), diethyl ethanolamine (1.00%), sodium benzoate (0.25%), and water (9.25%). Surgical catguts meet all conditions given in American Pharmacopeia monographs. Surgical catgut is generally used in soft tissue coating and bonding including ophthalmic applications.
Chrome Catgut sutures are manufactured with or without stainless steel needle, between USP 6/0 – USP 4 range, and with various lengths between 75cm to 150cm.
